Aloha!

Dear Friends,

On Friday we learned a new word. It is the Hawaiian word “aloha”. It has many meanings. It means hello and good-bye, I miss you, I am proud of you, I am doing my very best.

I went looking for the spirit of aloha in the classroom…

What is it?

A- It’s a bridge. We’re building it this way.

Where is the bridge going? Is it going over an ocean, or a lake or a river.

B- It’s going over a wavy river.

Is it a walking bridge or a bridge for cars or bicycles?

A- A walking bridge.

If you went on this bridge where would you go?

A- Um, a spooky hayride.

Is this the bridge to the spooky hayride?

A and B- nods and smiles

Does that make it a spooky bridge?

A- shakes his head.

Are you going to use all the pieces?

A- We’re trying to!

What did you make?

L- It’s a puppet.

Is it a boy or a girl puppet?

L- It’s a boy.

What kind of boy? Does he go to school ? Is he a Daddy?

L- nods. He’s a Daddy. I made a baby and a Mom at home.

Now you have the whole family!

L- smiles

Tell me what you did to make it.

L- I do two pieces of paper and then I taped them together.

Why do you need to tape them together?

L- So your hand doesn’t show when you put it in.

How did you figure that out? Was Haneen doing that at home or just you?

L- Just me.

You are using your awesome brain power!

L-nods and smiles

M- This is a robot that can turn into a people.

Did you make anything else?

M-  (points)This is a boat. (points) This is a radar car.

What is a radar car?

M- A car that looks for a zombie.

What does this guy do? (points)

M- He transforms.

What does he transform into?

M- He transforms into a car that speeds.

DSCN6050

M- My pattern is yellow-yellow-orange, yellow-yellow-orange, yellow-yellow-orange…

How many beads do you have on here?

M- Thirty.

That’s a big number. You know how to count big numbers!

M- Yeah.

How do you know how to count big numbers?

M- In my home.

What did you do in your house?

M- I measure all my home.

How do you measure your home?

M- Like this. (demonstrates counting footsteps)

Are you measuring with your footsteps?

M- nods

Do you have a big home or a little home?

M- Um, a big home!

With lots of footsteps?

M- Yeah!

DSCN6121

What were we doing here?

M- We did the rest of the letters.

Anything else?

R- We did it altogether.

What did we do with the markers?

A- We were doing the ABCs.

Did we do anything special when we were doing them? Hmm?

R and M – Umm…

Look at the colours. Did we do any old colours?

M- We did a pattern.

What was the pattern?

A- Purple-red-green, purple-red-green.

That’s a hard pattern. Did we get mixed up?

A- No.

Winter fun day

Dear Friends,

We did enjoy winter fun activities yesterday, but things were a bit turned around. The outdoor activity portion was at the end of the day. It turned out well with warmer temperatures and glorious sunshine.

We started off with some tasty pancakes at first nutrition break. This was a delicious way to celebrate winter.

Yum! Yum!

We went to the gym to watch a movie with our friends in the other kindergarten classes.

Our first rotation of the outdoor play was a mini-sticks relay. Look at our terrific stick handling skills!

We played soccer with tiny teams of 3 and 4 players. The action was fast and furious and the goals were plentiful!

The next activity was the rubber chicken relay. It was really silly and funny.

This is our chicken cheer!

The final activity was sledding down the little hill. It was slippery and slidey, just how we like it!

This is how we looked at the end of the day, all tired out from fresh air and exercise.

Sweet dreams, my friends. Let’s hope for warmer weather to blow in very soon!

Fantastic Fun For February Finale

Dear Friends,

I just wanted to remind everyone that tomorrow is scheduled to be our kinderlude outdoor play extravaganza! We will be having wintery outdoor fun first thing in the morning, then we will head inside to warm up with a nice pancake snack. This is just a snack. Your child will still need his or her regular lunch bag with food and drinks. If the weather proves dangerously cold, then we will postpone until Friday.

Friday is Hawaiian Day at W.E.J. ! Do you have a flowery shirt or sunhat? Wear them on Friday… preferably over a sweater because it is February 🙂

We will all share some fabulous fun times as we say farewell to frosty February!
